Extinction Rebellion staat naast de bevolking van Oekra\u00efne, die getroffen wordt door oorlog en alle verschrikkingen die daarbij horen. Wij roepen de Nederlandse regering op te stoppen met onze afname van Russische fossiele brandstoffen. Zeker 30% van de olie en bijna 40% van het gas in Europa komt uit Rusland*. Een vijfde van het Russisch BBP is afkomstig uit gas en olie en daarmee financieren wij dus direct het regime van Vladimir Poetin en zijn oorlog tegen Oekra\u00efne.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Zo\u2019n 120 gemeenten (Utrecht, Nijmegen, Maastricht, Apeldoorn, Den Haag, etc.), 50% van de waterschappen, EBN en universiteiten (Maastricht, Eindhoven, Twente) doen zaken met Gazprom, de geldmachine van Poetin. Stapels overheidsplannen en mooie woorden over duurzaamheid en corruptiebestrijding ten spijt; jaarlijks stromen er (tientalen) miljoenen fossiele euro\u2019s naar de Russische (oorlogs)kas.<\/p>\n

Door onze afhankelijkheid van fossiele brandstoffen dragen we niet alleen bij aan de klimaat- en ecologische crisis maar ook aan autoritaire regimes, zoals Saoedi-Arabi\u00eb, wiens oorlog met Yemen wordt gesteund door Europese wapenleveranties in ruil voor olie. Fossiele brandstoffen en de zakken die ze vullen, zijn de oorzaak van zovele jaren aan oorlog, nu is het Poetin, volgende week is het een andere wereldmacht, autoritair of niet, die zijn bommen loslaat op onschuldige burgers. Het is hoog tijd om te stoppen met fossiele brandstoffen, waarbij we ons energiegebruik drastisch inperken, zodat een verschuiving naar \u2018groene\u2019 energie niet meer kwaad dan goed doet.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t (fossil) fuel Putin\u2019s war machine!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Extinction Rebellion stands in solidarity with the people of the Ukraine, who are being impacted by the atrocities of warfare. We call upon the Dutch Government to stop using Russian fossil fuels. As much as 30% of all oil and almost 40% of natural gas in Europe is from Russian sources*. Since 1\/5th of Russia’s GDP comes from oil and gas, we are effectively financing Vladimir Putin\u2019s regime and his war against Ukraine.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

As many as 120 municipalities (a.o. Utrecht, Nijmegen, Maastricht, Apeldoorn and The Hague and 50% of all water authorities, EBN and Universities (Maastricht, Eindhoven, Twente) are doing business with Gazprom, Putin\u2019s money machine. Big words about sustainability and wanting to fight corruption mean nothing when on a yearly basis tens of millions of euros are being pumped into the pockets of the Russian regime that uses that money to wage war.<\/p>\n

Our dependence on fossil fuels is not only responsible for the climate and ecological crisis, it is also supporting authoritarian regimes such as Saudi Arabia, whose war with Yemen is being supported by European arms in return for oil…<\/p>\n

…Now it’s Putin, but next week it will be another world power, authoritarian or not, dropping bombs on innocent civilians. It’s high time that we not only stop using fossil fuels, but also start restricting our energy use more generally so that our move to “green” energy does not cause more harm than good.<\/p>\n
